Rebranding as Catherine Bamber Art

Hello!

It's been a while since I've written a blog post. I thought I should write one to explain my name change, even though it's now been a year since I made the change 👀 some of you may not even know my old name but it's mentioned a lot in past blog posts so I thought I should explain it.

I used the name 'Bamber Prints' when I opened my Etsy shop (for 5 months) back in 2016. I came up with the name quickly and always assumed it might change. I knew I wanted to use my surname 'Bamber' as my dad was an artist - Jim Bamber, he has his own Wikipedia page (we've never found out who wrote it) - and I felt like I wanted that connection to him as I inherited his drawing ability (it certainly wasn't from my mum 👀).

My first logo in 2016 and then in 2024 before I changed the brand name

I added the word 'prints' after because I read somewhere that your name should include what you sell, and at the time, I only sold prints. I quite liked how it sounded, and people seemed to like it so when I opened my business again in 2020, I kept it.

Fast forward to the end of 2023 and I was hoping to start selling more original art and changing my style. At the time, I mainly sold prints for children; it was what I knew, as I had worked as a designer for a childrenswear brand for four years. I enjoyed designing my early prints but they didn't feel original or very 'me'.

It took me a while to take the leap (there was a lot of overthinking on my part) but I changed the name in March 2024. The new name being, Catherine Bamber Art. I wanted it to be more personal, and most of the *artists I follow use their name for their brand. *I had to stop myself from writing 'real' before artists eeek, when will I think of myself as a real artist?

My new logo and name - clean and minimalist, like my art and it had to include a dot.

It felt like the end of an era but it wasn't really that deep, ha 🙈 It was time for a fresh start, and I feel like it has allowed me to experiment with my style instead of what 'Bamber Prints' had become known for.

Now we're a year on and my style has changed - for the better, I think! My art is a lot more unique and combines my love of second-hand shopping and dot drawing.

I hope this explanation/story time has made sense. It's a bit of a waffle 🫠

Hopefully, I'll be back to blogging regularly again soon!
